1. Prepare, Prepare, Prepare!
Before you market your products overseas, study the culture, history, politics, language, etc. Knowing a little bit of information on each topic can greatly increase your marketing success. Many new product launches have failed because the marketers neglected to study the culture. Don't let this happen to your company!
2. Slow It Down
Many countries do not operate at the same pace as the United States . Their pace is much slower and is often insulting if you expect them to go at your pace. So take a deep breath and slow it down a bit, you may even find it relaxing.
3. Relationships are the Key
In the United States , relationships are important, but how often do we trust first? You may find that many cultures will be very trusting of you at first and will seek to reinforce that thought. It is imperative to open up a bit and not think that they are trying to take advantage of you right off the bat.
4. Don't be afraid to hire a translator
Get a feel for the language and the nuances of the culture. Because marketing overseas will require the use of the foreign language, it is very important to have accurate message translations. Hiring a local translator will help you adjust your message to the culture by taking in consideration the local "slang" and dialect.
5. Respect the Culture
As a marketer, you will need to submerse yourself into their culture. Respect it in every way and the locals will begin to trust your firm. If you put the effort into your marketing campaign, you will reap the benefits. With minimal effort, your product launch may fail, affecting your entire global company.
